چکیده

Angioid streaks are linear dehiscences in the Bruch’s membrane, which may be idiopathic or associated with diseases based on an alteration of collagen, such as pseudoxanthoma elasticum or Paget’s disease.3 Therefore, we suggest that the angioid streaks could be associated with the AS, of which the physiopatholgical basis is an alteration of collagen type IV, a main component of all membranes in the body and, therefore, of Bruch’s membrane. Finally, we conclude that the high-resolution spectral domain OTC allows analysis of the microstructure of the layers of the retina, detecting incipient changes prior to viewing on fundoscopy. In this way, we are able to characterise new findings and establish an anatomic-functional correlation that justifies the visual impairment.

Tectonic Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty in Impending Corneal Perforation Using Cryopreserved Cornea

We report a case of tectonic corneal transplantation for impending corneal perforation to preserve anatomic integrity using cryopreserved donor tissue. An 82-year-old woman exhibiting impending corneal perforation suffered from moderate ocular pain in the left eye for one week. After abnormal tissues around the impending perforation area were carefully peeled away using a Crescent blade and Van...

Tectonic Lamellar Keratoplasty Using Cryopreserved Cornea in a Large Descemetocele

We describe herein a case of an impending corneal perforation with a large descemetocele in a patient with previous penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) that subsequently was treated with an emergent lamellar keratoplasty using frozen preserved cornea. A 76-year-old male patient, who had a PKP, presented with a completely whitish and edematous graft accompanied by large epithelial defects. Although a...

The use of preserved bovine pericardium for emergency temporizing graft in corneal perforation.

Corneal perforation is an ocular emergency that requires early intervention to avoid permanent visual loss from endophthalmitis or irreversible structural changes. Although tectonic keratoplasty is the best choice for patching a large perforation, a donor cornea is not always immediately available. Consequently, an alternative material is required while awaiting a donor cornea. We report the us...

Infectious keratitis with corneal perforation associated with corneal hydrops and contact lens wear in keratoconus.

BACKGROUND Corneal perforation is an uncommon complication associated with keratoconus. The first cases of infectious keratitis and corneal perforation associated with corneal hydrops and contact lens wear are reported in two keratoconus patients. METHODS A retrospective chart review and histopathological examination were carried out. RESULTS Both patients progressed to corneal perforation ...
